Igneous Rock Specimen
Mitchell County, North Carolina
Specifications: Each specimen is more than 1 inch on at least one side, and will come individually bagged and labeled with name and location of occurance.
Specific Description: In the Spruce Pine area of the North Carolina mountains, there are abundant granite intrusions, which take two basic forms, and are thusly either referred to as pegmatite or "alaskite". What is being offered here is "alaskite". It is important to note, that the term alaskite is a disputed one, as out-of-state geologists avoid it because it does not follow the strictest of definitions.
Here is an informative paper, regarding the difference between the alaskite and pegmatite, see page 16 of the .pdf for that information.
Photography: The pictures are representative of the quality and general size of the specimen you will receive. None of the pieces pictured, will be the actual one you will receive, but will be from the same rock stock (outcrop or formation) your order will be filled from. Additionally, while taking the representative pictures, a diligent effort was made to capture the material in both direct sunlight and shade.
