Basalt - Fine Grained and Porphyritic

Igneous Rock Specimens

Orange County, North Carolina

 Specifications:  Each of these 10 pieces will have at least one side that measures 3/4" in length, and an overall size estimate of 3/4” x 1/2" x 1/4”. The 10 specimens are packed together in a durable ziplock plastic bag, that has one label with the name of the material and the location in which it was found.

Specific Description: The basalt in this offering has a mostly fine-grained matrix, with a scattering of small porphyritic structures that are usually no larger than 1/2" in diameter.  In some (but not all) of the specimens, flow lines are visible.

Photography:  The pictures are representative of the quality and general size of the 10 pieces of material you will receive.  The pieces pictured are not the actual ones that you will receive, but are from the same rock and mineral stock (outcrop or formation) your order will be filled from.  Additionally, while taking the representative pictures, a diligent effort was made to capture the material in both direct sunlight and shade.
