Knapping Material
I received a question regarding the suitability of this dacite for use as a knapping material...what follows is my response: When I break larger pieces of this dacite, it exhibits a hackly type fracture along fairly smooth lines, except for the few small porphyritic structures. I noted no overtly obvious conchodial fracture though. Flow lines in this material are apparent, and I would speculate that this stuff was of a viscosity of peanut butter when it finally cooled (portions are clotted). Much like other rocks, some portions of this material is probably better suited than others for knapping. Anything further would be speculation at best, as I am not a knapper.
