Product Description

Greenstone (Virgilina)

Teacher Class Pack - 10 Piece

Metamorphic Rock Specimens

Granville County, North Carolina

Specifications Each of these 10 pieces will have at least one side that measures 3/4" in length, and an overall size estimate of 3/4” x 1/2" x 1/4”. The 10 specimens are packed together in a durable ziplock plastic bag, that has one label with the name of the material and the location in which it was found.

Specific Description:  "Basic volcanics, for which name Virgilina greenstone is proposed, were originally andesite and andesitic tuffs but have become, through intense metamorphism, chlorite-epidote schists or simply greenstone schists. These for most part retain something of their original minerals. The rocks form Virgilina Ridge and are typically developed in and near town of Virgilina, Halifax Co., VA. Rock is a well-defined greenstone schist."  Source - Geological Unit: Virgilina, United States Geological Society (USGS), National Geological Map Database, GEOLEX database

Photography:  The pictures are representative of the quality and general size of the 10 pieces of material you will receive.  The pieces pictured are not the actual ones that you will receive, but are from the same rock and mineral stock (outcrop or formation) your order will be filled from.  Additionally, while taking the representative pictures, a diligent effort was made to capture the material in both direct sunlight and shade.

Questions:  If you have any questions about our rock and mineral offerings, please know that we encourage you to contact us via the email or phone information on our "Customer Service" page.  In most cases, we reply in less than 24 hours!  Additionally, because we research, identify and collect most of the rocks and minerals ourselves, we are qualified and eager to answer your specific and complex questions regarding our rock and mineral offerings!
