Mineral Specimen
Johnston County, North Carolina
Specifications: Each specimen is more than 1 inch on at least one side, and will come individually bagged and labeled with name and location of occurance.
Specific Description: Limonite typically forms in the oxidized zones of iron-bearing deposits, when iron minerals such as pyrite decompose. Water is typically part of this process, and is retained in varying amounts by the limonite that results. The color of the limonite in this offering is predominantly yellow, with some earthy brown coloration. The streak is yellow to yellowish-brown and the hardness is 3.5 - 4.5 on the MOHS.
Photography: The pictures are representative of the quality and general size of the specimen you will receive. None of the pieces pictured, will be the actual one you will receive, but will be from the same rock stock (outcrop or formation) your order will be filled from. Additionally, while taking the representative pictures, a diligent effort was made to capture the material in both direct sunlight and shade.
