Specifications: Each of these 10 pieces will have at least one side that measures 3/4" in length, and an overall size estimate of 3/4” x 1/2" x 1/4”. The 10 specimens are packed together in a durable ziplock plastic bag, that has one label with the name of the material and the location in which it was found.

Specific Description: This type of pumice has a vesicular texture with randomly spaced and shaped openings. It is primarily light to medium tan in coloration.

In general, pumice is the very light volcanic material (igneous) that forms by the rapid cooling of the "frothy" surface of lava (molten rock). Most pumice will float in water due to its light weight and typical porosity of 90%. As it becomes saturated however, it starts to lose its ability to float.
